Doreen Lucille Miles

Doreen Lucille (Moritti) Miles fell peacefully asleep on October 25, 2020. She was 86 years young and is now resting in the arms of Jesus. She was born on March 16, 1934, in Chicago, IL to Mary (Pankiewicz) and Frank Moritti. Her compassion for others, sense of humor, laughter, and contagious smile will be missed by all who were blessed to know her. Doreen was one of few people to have met and shared a full life with her soulmate, Douglas L. Miles. They met at the Pullman dance hall and then saw each other twice a year—on Valentine’s Day and Labor Day—exchanging letters between visits. They were married in June of 1957 and lived a true love story. We find comfort in that they are together again.

Doreen was a loving wife, mother, Nana, sister and friend. She loved playing card games, knitting blankets and gifts, laughing, serving others, big ice cream cones, chocolate, boat rides, and crime TV shows.

Doreen started her career at Union Bank and later became the CEO of Miles Associates. While she actively took part in the business, raising their five children was the joy of her life. Mom, you are so deeply missed by Nancy (Frank) Canada, Thomas Miles, Karen (Michael) Balut, James Miles, Michael (Jennifer) Miles, and daughter-in-law, Sandra Miles.

Doreen (“Nana”) was blessed with six grandchildren: Kelsey, Lauren, Eric, Jaime, Tommy, and Andrew. She loved spending time with them and spoiling them. She was a great fan of their interests and attended many of their activities. They were always excited to visit her in Florida. They’d go on outings, challenge her to her favorite card game, Wild Rummy, and share great memories with tons of laughs. She made sure we were all serenaded on our birthdays and given a big hug, kiss, and an “I Love You” whenever saying goodbye. We love you Mom/Nana.

For the last several years, Doreen made Florida her home. She loved to entertain guests, was active in the social club, and enjoyed the company of her good friends during their weekly “tea parties” or lunch dates.

Doreen was preceded in death by her soulmate, Doug, whom she missed dearly. Also, her mother, father, and her sister Theresa (Moritti) Hosier. She is survived by her sisters Marianne Orzehoski and Madeline (Olen) Shifflet, brothers Daniel Moritti, Joseph (Mavis) Moritti, David Moritti, sister-in-law Joyce Miles, and several nieces and nephews.

Per Doreen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to COVID, a Catholic funeral Mass and memorial to celebrate her life will be planned at a later date. Details to follow.

A special thank you to Faith Hospice for your visits and developed friendships over the last five months. Thank you to the many friends and family who mailed cards, called, prayed for her, and visited. It meant so much to our mom. She loved you all.
